“Rashida is a fairly new variety for the Albanian market. It is the third year that we are planting this variety commercially. Rashida has impressed us with its adaptability to both early and late areas. This has helped Rashida achieve high yields all over our country. Yield is the main priority for the Albanian farmer. Therefore having a high yield is a main selling point. Rashida is a strong and robust variety that minimizes the farmers efforts. The long dormancy makes it a very good variety to store for longer periods without refrigeration. This is very helpful considering that storage infrastructure is mostly not present here and almost all farmers store the potatoes in their homes or small stores. Our market is slowly shifting towards a yellow flesh market which is a positive point for Rashida with its yellow skin and flesh. Last but not least, Rashida is a traditional variety that also has good frying qualities and the Albanian market is a traditional one and most restaurants make homemade fries. This is a perfect combination.“

What always suprises me about Rashida, is its capacity to deliver high marketable yield, no matter what the circumstances are. I saw it in many regions like Morocco, Greece, Spain and the Middle East. From other areas i also heard great stories, always with the same statement: a strong potato variety that contributes to food security all over the world. Besides its great agronomic attributes, thanks to its good dry matter and texture, Rashida is suitable for many dishes. I really enjoy preparing with my family some traditional potato dishes with it, like tortilla, tartiflette, tajine and stamppot.
